No More Drilling Thanks to Waterlase

December 20, 2017Scott AndersonDental Technology

Every year, dental anxiety prevents millions of Americans from receiving the dental care they deserve. Patients who are reluctant to seek dental treatment are often apprehensive about the prospect of dental drilling. Fortunately, our dentist in Gunnison uses Waterlase from Biolase, a remarkable technology that eliminates the need for frightening and painful metal drills.

This innovative device allows us to fill cavities and perform a number of other dental procedures with no heat, no noise, and no vibrations. What’s more, the Waterlase removes both hard and soft tissue with almost no pain. In fact, with Waterlase, many of our patients elect to get their cavities filled without using novacane.

What is Waterlase?

The Waterlase device utilizes hydrokinetic technology to remove hard and soft tissue using laser powered water droplets. Additionally, the Waterlase automatically sterilizes the tissue and dramatically reduces bleeding when compared to conventional technologies. This decreases the chances for infection and makes for a speedy recovery.

The Advantages of Waterlase

Waterlase can be used to perform a variety of procedures on both hard tissue, such as teeth and bones, and soft tissue, such as gums. Waterlase is great for removing tooth decay, but it can also be used in root canal therapy, gum therapy, and procedures involving the dentin and enamel in your teeth.

There are several advantages in using the Waterlerlase when performing a number of dental procedures. When a dentist uses a drill to remove tooth decay, in order to fill a cavity, it creates a great deal of heat. This can be painful for the patient, but no heat is created using Waterlase. Waterlase also eliminates the noise and vibrations associated with a conventional drill which are often disconcerting for patients.

Thanks to the pinpoint accuracy of Waterlase, we can save more of the healthy part of your tooth that’s unaffected by decay. Plus, none of the healthy adjacent teeth are adversely affected by Waterlase because it doesn’t cause any potentially damaging vibrations. Conventional drills often leave tiny cracks in the tooth that can lead to future dental problems such as fractures and infections. Waterlase dramatically reduces this type of damage.

Waterlase is also extremely effective and convenient for procedures involving the gums such as gum lifts, reshaping, and treatments for gum disease. With Waterlase, there’s very little bleeding, less swelling, reduced risk of infection, and faster healing times.
